November Rain: WBA preview

November: Trees are barren, early morning frosts, gloves and scarves, rain, the smell of gunpowder and Arsenal angst as we stutter –  not my favourite month. Last season  lived up to expectation with 4 losses from the 8 November games –  our record is not good – 2009 Pl 6 L2,  2008 Pl 8 L3 D 1. Should it continue our November form could see us out the CL and poorly positioned in the PL.

However, however, my good friends, this is the New Arsenal. A team with some cojones and I fully expect to wake up on Dec 1st looking back at a 100% win rate  (we can but hope :-) ).

Mr Hodgson brings his team to THOF for a 3.00 kick-off, a rarity in recent times, hoping for a similar result to last season. Like all who read this site, I was in a state of shock watching our boys go 3 down at home in what I thought would be an easy 3 points, and this after Manu had saved a first half penalty!

Our No.4 keeper makes a stunning penalty save

I like West Brom, I like Roy Hodgson, no idea why, but they both seem principled, hard working, good at what they do, but without flair, they seem Honest. I cannot see Roy playing mind games or telling his players to waste time at throw-ins. One cannot expect a limited team to play fast flowing attacking football and I anticipate WBA will play a defensive game using the pace of Odemwingie as their attacking outlet.

We are in good form taking 4 points from a fine OM team and playing with verve and enterprise.  Apart from the long term injured we have a healthy squad and Mr Wenger has choices in all positions, though 2 are nailed on today (GK + CF).

My Team:

I like the work Mozart has been doing this season and would give him 60+ minutes then bring on Benayoun.  A sub cameo from Arshavin today – he could turn the game should we be level after 70 mins.

Another interminable meaningless International break beckons and we must all hope our players survive. The team is settling and does not need this futile disruption with well over half the squad having the prospect of long distance travel and playing two Friendlies. Why? Oh yes …. money for the FA’s

Inventor from West Bromwich? Tough, though there is Major Albert Nichols who following WW2 developedt lightweight racing bicycles used in the Tour de France by British cyclists.

A proud Albert showing his metal

At this very moment Mr Wenger will be plotting how his merry Band of Brothers will explode this afternoon. I hope you enjoy the display. (sorry!)

Comment from 26may on the end of yesterdays post…..

    Morning all.

Micky, you’re 100% right at 7.44 that fans want to see players busting a gut for the team. Given the money these guys get, and that given a tiny amount of talent, we’d absolutely love to be in their shoes (boots), it’s the least we expect.

But I have to disagree about how the principle applies to Theo. When I think back to how easy Arsenal fans were for years on Cesc, when he went through any number of games clearly not trying his hardest, and we just let it slide because he was such a great talent, I don’t think Theo is judged on the same standards. Same with Nasri, and before that Henry. Theo started moaning about 18 months ago and it’s become a new thing to beat him up about, and there have been examples where he should have got up and battled, but I don’t think he’s any worse than most other players. As Rocky and his bourbon so eloquently said from Tennessee, Theo is held to different standards.

As for motivation, there was a piece about women’s football on the radio this morning: the top England internationals earn about £36,000 (including commercial add-ons). That is a measure of real motivation. And it’s repeated in all those sports which have so little money in them but which the competitors are dedicated to nonetheless. All players in professional men’s football should take a leaf out of their book.

  2. 26may1989 says:

Lovely write up as ever Mr R. I agree, there’s much to respect about West Brom, who’ve established themselves in the PL while not resorting to anti football. And they’re also the first oppo I saw Arsenal play in the flesh, so I always have a soft spot for them.

Hopefully, old boy Jerome Thomas won’t have such a good game against us as he did last year.

The only difference I have re our line up is that I’d have Ramsey in ahead of Rosicky. But am hoping for an entertaining three points combined with one or two of our immediate rivals dropping points.

And since Rasp cut me off so rudely at the end of the previous post, I’ll repeat: who’s heading to The Tavern today?

  3. 26may1989 says:

Oh and now I have to apologise to Rasp – a pint on me today if you’re there!

  4. Rasp says:

    Morning 26m,

I hope to be at the Tavern today to accept your generous offer :)

The AA Taverner’s widget will be in place in the next few minutes.

  5. Rasp says:

    Morning again,

Great pre-match as per usual BR, I wonder how many will get the Guns n Roses musical reference – you’re like a bloggerary Alfred Hitchcock!

I like Brom too. Bless them for sticking to their principles, hopefully by playing football they’ll give us the chance to shine (in the rain)

  6. TotalArsenal says:

Hi BR, thanks for another inspiring match report. Your line-up could well be the one for today. I am expecting Mertesacker to start and possibly Djourou instead of Jenkinson. If Ramsey is fully fit again, he would normally start ahead of Rosicky. But you are usually right with your predictions :)

Roy Hodgson is probably the best English manager around – AW called him uber-qualified – and this will not be an easy game for us. I read that Odemwingie is an injury-doubt for WBA today, and it would not be bad for us if he did not start today: a underrated top striker imo.

  7. MickyDidIt89 says:

    BR,
The reason you like Roy Hodgson is that he is an Arsenal Fan. Absolutley love the pic of Albert. A true English man-in-a-shed type inventor. I agree with your team and love the report.
Did I spot the Guns n Roses reference? Nope, but then I would’nt would I :-)

  8. Morning all, it is precisely because the Baggies play football that we ended up on the end of that 3-2 defeat last year. This is another game where we can shift like for like points in our favour.

Fine pre match BR as ever.

  9. 26may1989 says:

I’m proud to say I didn’t spot the Guns n Roses reference! And I still don’t know where it is! ;)

  10. goonermichael says:

Great pr match as always Raddy. I quite like West Brom and Hodgeson as long as we beat them :) I’m afraid I wouldn’t get a guns n roses reference if it sat on my face and wriggled.

  11. Rasp says:

I’ll give you all a clue – it’s the title

  12. goonermichael says:

GiE how are we doing like for like? Do you know? I’ll look it up if I get time if you don’t.

  13. MickyDidIt89 says:

    GM :-)

  14. Rasp says:

AA not a site frequented by many heavy metallers I surmise!

  15. goonermichael says:

    Actually
I think the bloke in the top hat is a brummie

  16. kelsey says:

    Raddy,

nice post and I would be comfortable with that line up.

We don’t want an opening ten minutes like our last two games,we need to get out of the traps faster. No Sharmer to contend with which is a big plus.

LB, now you know who Albert is :)

  17. goonermichael says:

Is that the right band? Slash I think his name is and He’s definitely English

  18. MickyDidIt89 says:

In the nicest possible way, I think that what some on here are implying, is that one can stick heavy metal up one’s arse. Metallers smell :-)

  19. Rasp says:

Yes, Slash was born in Hampstead

  20. goonermichael says:

So he’s not a brummie then. Is that ozzy osborne?

  21. Rasp says:

Too true Micky, give me Lonnie Donegan any day

  22. goonermichael says:

I don’t like metal. It actually does smell. :)

  23. Rasp says:

    Yes Sabbath are from Birmingham

  24. kelsey says:

With regards to ladies football they were also talking about the USA National team and Hope Solo their keeper is a huge celebrity of film star status, yet attendences are falling dramatically and 3000 is a good crowd.
I was surprised at that as i thought that the ladies had an edge to the men where football is concerned in the USA

  25. Rasp says:

Did anyone spot peaches in the front row nodding her head as Lonnie was singing?

  26. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Rasp :-)
I hate men in bandanas. Funnily enough, thinking of men in bandanas, last year my wife went with a girlfriend as moral support to the Hells Angels Christmas Party. Their HQ is a house they own in Islington! She said they were a very nice and pleasant bunch of chaps. I said “No they weren’t, they are a bunch of pricks. Go on your own.”

  27. goonermichael says:

    Kelsey
In Japan the ladies team, Especially the captain are big celebrities after winning the world cup. They also have a lot of celebrity female golfers.

  28. Big Raddy says:

Ah you Heathens. Metal is an art form and G & R are a star in the firmament.

Perhaps I was harsh on WBA’s tactic. They outplayed us last season but I believe that should they play such an expansive game today we will run riot.

  29. goonermichael says:

Aren’t the Heathens a metal band? Sounds like one.

  30. Big Raddy says:

Micky. Tell the truth – you were afraid. Fairplay to your wife – there is no way I would let my Mrs go to a Hells Angels party.

But then we have only been married 2 years and today is our anniversary (still going to the pub to watch the match with California Gunner)

  31. MickyDidIt89 says:

    GM,
Heathens? Sounds more like their girlfriends!
Sunny day, trees in full autumnal colour, off for a walk. Back for KO.

  32. MickyDidIt89 says:

    BR,
My wife is very good looking, six foot one, size 10 and smells of Chanel No5. They like their women short, fat, butt ugly and reeking of real ale and vomit. I have never felt less threatened!

  33. MickyDidIt89 says:

Happy Anniversary. Two years eh. Is that good going by yours or GM’s standards?

  34. Jamie says:

Good pre match post, though I have a feeling Arsene might shuffle the pack a bit.

Think we will win but it will be close.

Vital we get three points. Here is to another nervous afternoon in the north bank.

  35. goonermichael says:

Congratulations Raddy. And well done to your wife :)

  36. Big Raddy says:

Micky :-) & with a husband as charming and debonair as you how could she find a beer bellied tattooed bandana wearing orc attractive?

  37. MickyDidIt89 says:

BR. You smooth talking bastard. :-)
    Walkies.

  38. kelsey says:

    MickyDidIt89 says:
    November 5, 2011 at 10:33 am (Edit)

Happy Anniversary. Two years eh. Is that good going by yours or GM’s standards?

    hahahahaha :)

2 more and we have got a first team.

  39. Morning all

The Guns and Roses ref went right over my head I’m afraid and I’m not ashamed to admit it :)

Great pre-match Raddy, I was there last season when we went 3 down and it was pretty scary, I don’t expect anything like that to happen today. Congrats on your wedding anniversary and much love to your better half too.

Rasp and I shall be at the pub for sure by 2 o’clock.

Who fancies the match report – go on make my day, let it be sorted before I leave for the game please xx

  40. kelsey – did I send you a pic of the pool? I actually had to go to another site this morning, sometimes other people pay me to destroy a garden :)

  41. TotalArsenal says:

BR, did indeed not get the G&R reference and that makes the title of your post really good. Thanks for pointing it out Rasp.

Here is to many more sunny November anniversaries for you BR and Madame BR.

  42. Big Raddy says:

Thank you for your good wishes.

  43. Doesn’t Harry do match reports pre game Peaches?

GM like for like matches we’re now equal. The Spuds away and Pool at home leaves us -2pts, add Blackburn away and we’re -5pts, then we have Sunderland Home back to -3 points and Chelsea Away back to level.

(I replaced Swansea with Blackpool last season)

Win today and we’ll be 3 points up like for like :D

  44. “Doesn’t Harry do match reports pre game Peaches?

Ment to say “Doesn’t Harry do match reports for games he attends Peaches?”

I won’t be able to watch the 90 so it’s a no from me.

  45. Now you’ve dobbed him in it GiE, he’ll have to

  46. Rasp says:

Congrats on the two years Raddy, you’ve actually been wed to AA nearly as long as your missus.

Today is a must win if we wish to keep the momentum up, in the unlikely event that the swans beat pool we can climb a place to 6th spot otherwise a victory just keeps us in 7th There is a gap forming between the chasing pack and I fully expect toon to finish the season out of contention.

  47. Red Arse says:

Really good pre match Raddy, made me smile. :-)

    Rocky,

As you know, I love your Post writing talent, but your post Tennessee, bourbon induced blast had me falling about laughing. Been there and done that too!! :-)
It was a flash of the raw hard core Rocky, speaking from the heart and swatting us footballing pygmies for our Theo intransigence ….. and I loved it too!

Only thing is, when you read the comments, you will see that 99% of us had been defending our speed merchant from a sneaky, sustained Spud attack, and totally agree with your point of view!! :-)

  48. Red Arse says:

    Micky,

As usual, I cannot stop grinning when I read your comments, made all the more amusing because they are just you being you! :-)

Incidentally, Woy Hodgson is not an Arsenal fan, but has been a Crystal Palace eagle since boyhood. I only know this because he said so in the paper today! :-)

  49. harry says:

    GIE, you tinker……… :D

  50. harry says:

Oops, great pre match as usual raddy…….sorry…..rushing…

  51. goonermichael says:

Thanks GiE. Not so bad after all.

  52. 26may1989 says:

@Rasp 10.06am: Is there really a G&R song called “WBA preview”?

    ;)

Am surprised Chary hasn’t already been on here, namechecking various obscure metal acts from Dundee and Stavanger.

  53. Harry you forgot No 7 ……

  54. fatgingergooner says:

November has been a shocking month for us in recent seasons, but with us making signings so late in the window, it almost feels as though this team is a month behind where it should be.

On that basis, we have a side that is just starting to get a run together at the beginning of October, and therefore, should have too much for this West Brom side.

Hopefully, the delayed forming of the current Arsenal crop will see us banish this Halloween hoodoo once and for all.

  55. oz gunner says:

Team in full: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Andre Santos, Song, Ramsey, Arteta, Walcott, Gervinho, Van Persie (c).

Substitutes: Fabianski, Djourou, Mertesacker, Benayoun, Rosicky, Arshavin, Park.

  56. RockyLives says:

    I’ve got a hangover.

  57. What a rant hangover Rocky? :D

  58. Gone full strength then, Bench looks pretty well stacked too.

  59. oz gunner says:

no odemwingie for WBA, failed fitness test.

  60. RockyLives says:

Read yesterday’s comments… no one was really slagging off Theo that much, were they? I’ll get my coat…

    BR
    Fantastic pre-match as always.

  61. RockyLives says:

No Oddwinkle! That’s good for us.

  62. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Back and ready.
Woodland walk then pub lunch of venison bangers and mash. I’m very ready for the game.

  63. oz gunner says:

    @ Rocky

i just assumed you were directing it at non-AA’ers. Haha love a good rant, especially the emotionally charged alcohol fueled ones!

  64. oz gunner says:

toon 2nd, you wouldn’t read about it!

  65. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Rocky,
Get that coat off and come and snuggle up on the sofa in front of the fire. I’ll fix you a bloody mary.

  66. evonne says:

Raddy – thanks and congrats! I hope your marriage is as good as your pre-match, keep up the good work xx

  67. evonne says:

Rocky – I thought the booze induced rant was a bit out-of-character :) Made us all laugh though. Jamie does it sometimes too

  68. oz gunner says:

cheers for the pre-match BR. Always the perfect warm-up to the match

  69. kelsey says:

    my wish list for today:
Gervinho,Kos, Arteta,Walcott all to score and RVP if he has to.

Oh Rocky we are the team in red and white :)

  70. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Here we go.
    Back at half time.

  71. MickyDidIt89 says:

Through his bloodshot eyes, they’re all in red!

  72. LI’LL do it then even though I’m only watching on BBC Live Text…

    GOAL!!! Van Persie!!! Assist Theo

  73. evonne says:

Micky, Micky – this goal started with a corner!!!

  74. evonne says:

GiE – huge banner ‘VERMINATOR’ sporting at the north stand

  75. oz gunner says:

great finish by verm! i swear in a lower team he could be a striker!

  76. kelsey says:

    Everyone happy ?

Kos and Verm for me everytime.

It wasn’t an assist,Theo shot from a few yards and the keeper parried it stright to RVP who scored (even dandan would have scored it.)

Those who didn’t see the goals there is a deft little flick from gervinho and the verm blasts it infor the second.

Not often I can say that defensively we look much more assured.

Expect Park to get 20/30 minutes if we are still 2 or more up.

  77. dandan says:

Look again Kelsey the GK was lucky Theo hit it through the keepers legs and it hit his backside as he fell backwards, which is why he didnt know where it was and Robin just had a tap in.

Have you noticed with this commentator we cant defend free kicks and when we do its a bad fre kick, dont you just love em

  78. evonne says:

Oz – have you read what Micky said about your avatar?

  79. evonne says:

Dandan – where are you watching the game?

  80. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Yip Kelsey, Kos and Verm.

  81. kelsey says:

    evonne like me on liveonfooty.com

jenkinson crosses a ball far better than theo today. gervinho will turn out to be a star, his work rate is fantastic.
maybe rosicky will come on soon and arshavin.

  82. evonne says:

Kelsey – how do you know, is Dandan with you?

  83. evonne says:

what a lovely goal! Arteta’s first!!!

  84. OK goals for those who don’t have:

    RvP
    http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/robin-van-persie-west-brom-15651785/

Doesn’t he make sure!!! Great pass by Ramsey

    Verm
    http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/thomas-vermaelen-west-brom-15651830/
    Cracking strike

    Arteta
    http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/mikel-arteta-west-brom-15652017/
Great move watch Theo drag the right back away to create space for others.

  85. Arteta’s second, have you wiped the Blackburn game completely out of your mind Evonne….. ;)

I only wiped the second half :D

  86. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Pool 0-0 Swansea

  87. What a surprise Wes Brown scores the winner for United, sounded dismal according to the Radio, a touch of after the Lord Mayors Show I guess. Given they named a stand after SAF before match started plus players clapping him on to the pitch and other stuff.

  88. MickyDidIt89 says:

3-0. 3 points. No injuries. Good. Good. Good. (bit boring in parts, but hey)

  89. Think I just heard Liverpool fans boo at the end of their game, although it could be at the ref given he denied a goal for offside.

Also hear there’s a funny old penalty decision in Sunderland Man Utd game, apparently Mason gives a pen to Sunderland, goes over to Linesman who has flag across his chest (traditional signal for penalty), and then they decide its not a penalty.

  90. kelsey says:

Man of the Match has to be kos hardly played a bad ball or made a bad tackle the whole game though Vermaelen is a very close second, he seems fully recovered and after so little match play was excellent.
Arteta is getting with each game.solid performance all round otherwise.
Generally just the game we needed, not at our best but comfortable and no apparent injuries.
What is wrong with arshavin ? and Walcott i stick to my guns.let me see him play a run of good games then i will be convinced.

We are closing in, well played boys.

  91. According to FiveLive Torres has just bettered his sitter missed at OT, by volleying over from three yards out, can here Ewood singing what a waste of money :D

  92. MickyDidIt89 says:

Jenks gets better and better. Really great find and fabulous to have a fan playing for us.

  93. Great stat about our One Man Team

More to the point: Spurs, 5 different goalscorers in last 5, United 6 different goalscorers in last 5 Arsenal, 9 in last 5.

  94. That was form ArsenalGent on Twitter

  95. RockyLives says:

    Great win.
We were calm, slick and always in control.
Every player had a good game.
    And a clean sheet too.
We are definitely on the way back – and this team could really just keep on going.
Certainly no other teams will relish playing us at the moment.

Got a three hour drive from Nashville to Knoxville now – catch up with everyone tomorrow.

  96. MickyDidIt89 says:

    GiE,
You are a Gunner through and through. Putting Robin’s goal down as a Theo Assist! :-)

  97. RockyLives says:

    Micky
Jenks is the best crosser I’ve seen since Beckham.
I can’t see why, in due course, he won’t turn out to be England’s RB for a very long time (notwithstanding the suggestion that he could also choose to play for Finland).

  98. oz gunner says:

great game, cruised to victory and never troubled. RVP MOTM for me with a goal and two assists. Complete performance once again, loving what i’m seeing from this team.

    @ Evonne

I sure did, whats the punishment these days for thinking mr arsenal himself is in fact a sheep? surely banishment to the dark side of north london!

Suarez is a disgrace to watch, in the last 10mins he went down twice easily trying to win a penalty, called for a handball when clearly wasn’t one, and called for a swansea player to get sent off! Vorm made a magnificant save in the last few minutes to grab the draw, yet liverpool could have quite easily lost have a swansea player not rocketed over the bar from a few yards out. Chelsea lucky as blackburn hit the crossbar late on.

  99. MickyDidIt89 says:

Bleedin ‘eck, just realized we’re into International Break. That’s horrible, horrible news. Nothing for two weeks.

  100. SharkeySure says:

Cracking post Radders, safe journey Rocky.

I think I like this slightly less technical slightly less exciting Arsenal, to the harem scarem Arsenal of recent times, although Santo does do his best to keep my heart rate high !

  101. Haha Mickey I hadn’t seen it and went by BBC Live Text version of events.

  102. MickyDidIt89 says:

Here’s hoping Holland are playing a meaningless friendly against FC Cotton Wool’s Reserves Sisters.
    Bye for a while.
    Save driving Rocky.

  103. International break is good Micky……Two weeks out of November….all good :D

  104. Stuart Hall on Five Live just called Liverpools approach Long Ball….hoping to see Carroll knock the ball down for Suarez, very strange, but then he does have Steve Clarke as his coach and it worked well for Chelsea.

  105. SharkeySure says:

Its a real shame about Suarez…

I defended him from a houseful that night vs Ghana, but since then he’s been nothing short of scandalous in his gamesmanship and blatant cheating.

Without all that we’d only talk about wot a fantastic talent he is, and how we wished he played for us.

  106. evonne says:

SS – what did he do?

  107. Right off to see Micky Flanagan in Ipswich, see you all on the morrow once I have digested MOTD.

I’ll run a sweepstake on how many inbred jokes he goes for….I’ll let you know who’s right in the morning.

  108. kelsey says:

Post match comment from peaches. After tomorrow we need posts for two weeks please :) :)

  109. dandan says:

He knowes his Fen Billy’s GIE :-)

  110. SharkeySure says:

I had a bit of a nightmare on the streams today. both mine and the one that ETL put up had the audio about a second ahead of the pictures….soooo annoying that I ended up turning off the sound !! I’m usually on LOF, but my subscription has just expired. I only found out at 2.59, two mins after Mrs SS went out (she Paypals my 60 days subscrips)

From what I saw the stand outs were Kos and Jenks…supported by almost everyone else having a very good game. I’m hoping Verms repeated fouling from behind is just rustiness rather than rashness.

Tough call leaving out Merts today.

Agreed re Jenks…you just gotta love the kid. I always think of him as being around 22, then raise an eyebrow at the fact that he’s only 19. Lovely.

  111. SharkeySure says:

Mickey Flanagan…top top top man. You’ll have a great night GIE, ..guaranteed

  112. See Jenkinson has got a lot of plaudits today judging by Twitter.

Then I see on Twitter Ox and Afobe bogging up their mate Jenkinson, seems like he is settling in amongst mates. Good to hear.

  113. SharkeySure says:

Kelsey….I’ll put my neck on the block and do something, as I’m long overdue.

I had a good idea for one..but its gone for now.

  114. evonne says:

Yes, after Cesc’s departure I had been looking for a new sweetheart and found Jenkinson, he is my boy now. He can do no wrong

SS – my stream was ok today, but I watched on a new laptop, much much faster than the old one

  115. SharkeySure says:

The scandalous goalline handball ETL. Ghana got the 89th* min penalty (but missed it) and he got sent off.

He then cheered as Uruguay went through on penalties.

    * It might have been late in extra time, but either way he kept his team in it by very foul means

  116. SharkeySure says:

New laptop ETL…..ooh look at you. What brand did you get

Questio to all: Recommended broadband subscribers please. Are Sky very good or just OK..?? We’re currently with TalkTalk and the quality and service is shocking

  117. evonne says:

SS – you know I do rely no my laptop :) I got one from Sainsburys (buy one get a leg of lamb free). It is ACER Esprimo in red. The black version was £150 more, but hey I like red, so I did well – laptop, leg of lamb and some money in back pocket.

  118. MickyDidIt89 says:

    QPR 1-0 City 27 mins.

  119. SharkeySure says:

I assumed you were joking about the leg of lamb.

Did you drive home with your hand on its knee..??

  120. evonne says:

whose bloody knee???? The lamb??? SS, you is pissed like Rocky was last night.

I am off to watch Shitty

  121. gooner lost in cornwall says:

4 league wins on the bounce, didn`t happen last season, lubbly :)

  122. SharkeySure says:

    Carroll and Torres…oh dear.

Carroll subbed on 74mins with the score at 0-0, at home to Swansea.

Torres – on the bench, even with Drogba suspended/inured. AVB preferring a front three of Sturridge, Mata and Malouda. Torres misses an absolute sitter late on….

Cntrast the £35m ad £50m men with our very own £2.75m man. All hail Robin Van Persie, and all hail Arsene Wenger who saw the potential in a moody young troublemaker from Feyenoord.

Next up – Alex Song at £1m versus…..

If I do these one a day thats our two week break covered

  123. SharkeySure says:

ETL – I ‘d like to say don’t be so ‘touchy’…but apparently ‘hands on’ might as well be your middle names.

  124. gooner lost in cornwall says:

” verry good win gays !! “, Andre Santos on twitter,

  125. gooner lost in cornwall says:

could get some “hard stick” for that comment !

  126. evonne says:

    Sharkey!!!!!!!!!!!

    GLiC – butty boy :)

  127. evonne says:

I have asked the question before but nobody responded – does anybody think that Silva is a new Messi? He is an outstanding player, reminds me a lot of Lionel

  128. Here I am, in from the cold ……………. jolly pleasant afternoon at the Ems I have to say ………….

I did tell you all about Kozzer weeks ago, he is a magnificent Gunner and all detractors will soon change their mind about him.

Carl Jenkinson – no wayward crosses from him! How long had we been keeping tabs on him do you think ……. someone was keeping him very quiet ……

Very excited that we have subs that come on and change the game – Yossi and Rosicky were great.

    Love being a Gooner xx

Need posts for the next couple of weeks but kelsey has already told you that ;)

  129. Hi evonne – Silva was always on my wish list :)

Just sent you an email …..

  130. gooner lost in cornwall says:

    evonne,
He might be “outstanding” but Messi is “out of this world “, plus he`s older than Messi, so he would have to be the old Messi, not the new Messi ! :)

  131. kelsey says:

Silva would have fitted into our team so well.

peaches thoughts on arshavin and theo (cough)

  132. evonne says:

Glic – is he older than Messi? Didn’t know that, ok, no new Messi then

    Peaches – I replied
    -

  133. gooner lost in cornwall says:

    kelsey,
Silva, Nasri swap, instead of money would have been nice !.

  134. gooner lost in cornwall says:

Spain have so many small technically gifted players.
There was one I liked a year or so ago called Jesus Navas, I thought he also would have fitted in well, Plus he would have sold a lot of shirts! :)

  135. gooner lost in cornwall says:

With God running the club and Jesus playing, what chance of a trophy ?

  136. evonne says:

None in this life :) Our reward is in Heaven

  137. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Enjoyed the game today. In the spring we will have a shot at the title and in May we wlll be lifting the Champions League, i cant wait.

  138. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

Just like to add that all the boys played with confidence and pride. It reminds me of the rise of the 71 double team.

  139. gooner lost in cornwall says:

    Hi Terry,
I see they let you out again !.
I was thinking, If you could have a Groundhog day, would It be the 5-0 win at the Lane ?

  140. TotalArsenal says:

3 – 0 Brilliant!!! Another clean sheet and three classy goals.

Micky, I am afraid to say Holland are playing Switzerland and….. Germany. The former is a friendly, the latter is a mini-war. Huntelaar is probably not playing – he broke his nose in two places on Wednesday whilst playing for Schalke 04 – and RvP will most likely have to play both games. Fingers and any other body parts crossed!

  141. harry says:

Evening all, cant stay on long, got bullied into the match report by the RHWP…………..

Good solid 3 points some hard graft, finished nicely with 3 goals, who said 3-0 for their prediction? oh yeah……thats £50 back to me, nice, paid for my tickets that I only got yesterday………

I will keep my comments to my match report…………

Evonne, Silva is not and never will be messi………different type of players, Silva is technically excellent and controls games, orchestrates play to get others in on goal………

Messi is simply one of the best players ever, dominates and slaughters teams on his own, naturally gifted like best, Maradona and pele……….Silva is gifted but not as much………imvho……

  142. Big Raddy says:

May I suggest that you all go back and read Harry 11.42.

Freaky …… (apart from Kos for BFG)

  143. Big Raddy says:

As to the game. It was such a stroll it became dull to watch. I know …. I am an ingrate but sitting in the pub no-one got excited because we were SO much better than WBA.

Micky. If you read the effing post (which I slaved over throughout the night) you would have known there was an effing Interlull :-(

  144. Big Raddy says:

Oh and MoM for me was Kos, closely followed by CJ, I thought he had a superb game

  145. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Ah BR,
I always read your effing posts. In fact I sit here from six in the effing morning waiting for the effing thing. However, if you honestly think I can remember what I read at 9:30 in the morning by 5:30 in the afternoon, you’re effing mad.
All in the nicest possible way.
Anyway, why aren’t you out enjoying your effing anniversary? :-)

  146. SharkeySure says:

“All in the nicest possible way.”

    I think you mean…. ‘respectfully’…

  147. chas says:

    Nice pre-match, BR.
Guns and effing Roses. Not on your nelly.

Lovely goals today. Kos was majestic. I don’t think TV5 was fouling from behind today. The West Brom forward dived every single time he was touched instead of going for the ball. The ref kept falling for it too.

  148. SharkeySure says:

    Alright Chas

I had a chat with Wonderman earlier and suggested that yeah the CF needs no invitation to go down easily. I figured that TV never got carded because they were very soft fouls.

WM was at the game and said that TV also nicked many many balls by nipping in front, so I guess you’re right on that one.

  149. Evening all, just in from Micky Flanagan, and Sharkey you were right top night of comedy from a very good comedian.

He’s at a good age for stand up, lived enough of a life, and also a varied enough life but tells it all in his own unique way.

His answer to the rise in teenage pregnancy was side splitting. I can’t say what it is on a family blog.

  150. 26may1989 says:

Lovely day for the good guys. And we broke into positive goal difference – woohoo!!

Silva? Superb player, but he’s no Messi. The li’l Argie is a once in a generation talent. Good to see some ropy defending from the Abu Dhabi Government today, there’s some hope. Not much mind.

Suarez? Sharkey, you knew he was a cheating little bastardo! There was the revolting behaviour vs Ghana. And the fact he got banned for eight games in Holland for biting an opponent. And also in the World Cup, he took an outrageous dive against South Africa, ending the Saffers’ keeper’s World Cup as a result of the ensuing red card. I was so upset watching that, I was straight onto Suarez’s Wiki page, inserting a reference to cheating. It stayed up for all of ten minutes. I still felt satisfied with it.

  151. pat says:

sweet – another win. Looked great on TV must have looked even better at the ems… and TV the player looked good as well, in fact the team out there as a whole looked good. More of that please!

  152. LB says:

I think it was Harry who said a couple of days ago that Vermaelen adds 10% extra to the whole of the defence, it struck me as being spot on and it certainly was the case yesterday…….the Vermenator is my MOTM.

  153. evonne says:

    Morning all
I am watching Match of the Day now and I am pleased to observe that our competitors really struggled yesterday. Shitty were lucky to win, ManU very unconvincing, Chavs pants…. Well, well, could it be that we had our early season bleep whereas others have it all coming?

How come that Scum play so many games on Sundays??? Not fair

  154. oz gunner says:

    morning all

    @evonne

how could you like Sunday games? saturdays are perfect because if your out drinking you have sunday to recover. If it’s a sunday it makes for a awful first day back at work.

Agree they all struggled. Manu are doing what they did last season, not winning convincingly but getting the job done, hopefully though this year they aren’t so lucky! As for liverpool they are very average. 35 million for carrol, im still laughing!

  155. Stat time stat fans:

4 EPL wins in a row. First time we’ve done that for 2 seasons

  156. evonne says:

Oz you little pisshead, I don’t drink! And Sunday games are shown on TV, all right?

  157. Evonne it’s because Thursdays are Spursdays!

  158. Beat me to that one GiE :)

  159. evonne says:

oh yeah, the European thingy, forgot about it

  160. harry says:

    Morning all………

Evonne, what GIE is trying to say is that Spuds are in the euro tinpot comp and not the Premier euro comp like us, so they play sundays……….

@LB, yes it was me…….TV adds a 10% improvement across the board he oozes class and ability, he makes everyone around play better……….He even made squillaci look good!!

  161. evonne says:

    ….Arsenal game showing……

  162. harry says:

    against Bolton……..

  163. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Arsenal-striker-must-never-leave-the-ultimate-football-team-says-Marco-Van-Basten-article827666.html

Bloody hell I don’t like posting whole articles but this is well worth a read…. couple of quotes:

“Robin must not leave Arsenal. You can’t compare my situation at Ajax. The big difference is that Robin is already at a big club.”

“And I still think Arsenal are the most beautiful club in England. At Man City and Chelsea, they will never have that class and style.”

“Arsenal have the most amazing stadium, they have a style of play, they have a beautiful shirt – in every way I consider Arsenal as the ultimate football club.

“It is the club where Robin belongs.’’

  164. evonne says:

    Harry – ????

  165. harry says:

Great shout evonne, just truned it on to see the Verminators goal….

  166. I always loved van Basten

  167. Don’t bother to wait for the analysis …………………

  168. evonne says:

    GiE – ohhhhhhh…..i am crying..the most beautiful club…..oooooohh

  169. Harry honey, you’re a star xx

  170. I don’t think they can bring themselves to do any analysis on the game…..wouldn’t want to admit that we were most convincing of all top clubs yesterday against relatively similar opposition.

  171. Love the Hodgson calls us “The Arsenal” always respect him for that.

  172. kelsey says:

Saw interesting post on BBC: 25 years ago today the bottom 4 in the top league was Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle and Manchester City. talk about irony?

  173. Big Raddy says:

Micky. May I respectfully apologise. We share a worsening retention problem.

A champagne breakfast followed by a champagne lunch and then a beery afternoon didn’t help :-)

The Gooners in the pub were convinced that Nik missed a sitter at OT. Having no access to MOTD is this true?

GIE. Are we now ahead of last season on a match to match basis ?

  174. harry says:

Peaches, no problem, just worried that the match report isnt my usual standard, but hopefully it works ok……..

  175. oz gunner says:

    @ Evonne

thats terrible, how do we get every game down here yet you do not?!

My pisshead days are long gone. As Roger Murtaugh says

  176. kelsey says:

At least one or two agree with me that Kos was man of the match.

dandan watch the first goal again please. What I liked was that though RVP had one of hie simplest goals to score this season if he had not connected gervinho was just a few yards to his left.

Fulham v Spurs we need the Spuds to drop points with two games in hand. Both played on thursday though Spurs had their third team out,but I fancy a draw as the best we can hope for.

  177. kelsey says:

I know penalties are always a talking point but Everton were really denied a stone wall penalty when trailing 2-1.
Suarez is a scum bag must have been out with Rooney.

only one point now behind last season at this stage so tthings are going nicely.

    Back later.

  178. evonne says:

Raddy – yep, he sure did! Had Nik scored ManU would just draw and Fergies celebrations would be seriously tinted

  179. I know what you mean about RvP’s first Kelsey, same applied to Vermaelens, this time he picked up the pieces after Gerv failed to connect.

What i most liked about RvPs from 3 yards out was that he just larraped it home when a pass would have done, that for me is someone who like Ian Wright loves scoring goals and the sound of the ball hitting the back of the net.

I watched Arteta’s goal again this morning, its interesting to see Theo drag his man inside fractionally which gives Rosicky the room then when in the box he moves again to the near post when RvP has the ball which creates the gap that Arteta scored through.

Thought the third was a true Arsenal team goal, pass and move and pass and move and thankfully end product from a midfielder arriving late.

To answer your question Raddy we are now 3 points ahead of like for like games. I’ll do a little post on the subject of our Club in Crisis, be interesting to do others in top 7 wouldn’t it?

  180. gooner lost in cornwall says:

Fergy, 25 years, great achievement. Asked who were his top ten most influential in them years, he said ” Howard Webb, Phil Dowd,Martin Atkinson, Mark…………………….
Personally, I like the stamina of his teams, to keep going for the full 100 or so mins, or untill the above mentioned give them a penalty or winner !

  181. SharkeySure says:

    MVB :-)

  182. New Post ………………..
